Middle School Small Group Leader:

About the Opportunity:

We believe that the best way to encourage our middle school students towards an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ is through genuine conversation and relationships built within a small group context. If you feel led, we hope you would consider serving our middle school students as a small group leader.

A small group leader volunteers their time during our Impact meetings on Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings. During this time, small group leaders facilitate thoughtful discussion with their group around the topic being addressed that week.

A key component of this role would be a willingness to build relationships with students outside of church. Examples could be attending a student’s sports game or school play, remembering to send them a birthday card or giving them a call before a hard test at school. Our volunteer leaders are asked to give of their time and energy but in doing so, are blessed to witness the fruit of students’ spiritual growth.

Middle School Student Buddy:

About the Opportunity:

Westover Buddies is a program for special needs students who could benefit from having extra support in their small and large group settings. Our buddies provide one-on-one support to help keep students on track and help them understand the lesson. Maybe as a parent of a special needs child you want your child to learn to pray, memorize a verse, or even just make a friend. Their buddy will help to facilitate those things. We all need help in life, and some days are harder than others, and you need more help. This is no different with special needs children. Having a buddy to help support the hard days can be so beneficial in many ways! If you think your student could benefit from having a buddy, or if you would be interested in being a buddy and providing support please connect with us!

Role of Buddy

  1. Provide one-on-one support for a student.

  2. Look for ways to connect with the student.

    • what are their interests

    • special hand shake or greeting

    • be a detective- try to figure them out

  3. Communicate with Parent and Buddy

  4. May need to modify lesson so that student will better understand.

  5. Redirect negative behaviors.

    • try to use positive reinforcement

    • we will work together to figure out what works best for student

  6. Encourage student to be involved

***A Buddy is only responsible for the student that they are paired with. They are not to teach lessons or be in charge of a group. If they would like to interject with relevant points during discussion time they are welcome to.
